Located in «Ruta de los Cenotes» (the route of the Cenotes) near Puerto Morelos, there is Cenote Zapote, also known as «Hell Bells» for its unique formations. Unlike the other cenotes, Cenote Zapote’s formations are still growing, caused by a bacteria, which is why they are called biothems. Dark and spooky, this is might be a challenging dive for some, but those who are brave enough, will be rewarded with a totally unique and otherworldly experience.

Close by, there’s cenote Kin Ha, which, despite its overhead entrance, has beautiful passages of light and features not only speoleothems (stalactites and stalagmites) but also biothems, like Zapote.
