Cenote Yaakun is the newest cenote for scuba divers, having just opened a few months ago. It offers a closer alternative to Cenote Angelita, which is known for its thick hydrogen sulfide cloud and eerie fallen trees. For divers coming from Playa del Carmen, the drive to Angelita can be quite long. Yaakun is much closer and features similarly fascinating attributes, such as a dramatic hydrogen sulfide cloud at 22 meters (73 feet). Beyond this cloud, you’ll discover a stunning blue abyss, a result of the salty water layer beneath the cloud.

The island with the fallen trees features a gentle slope where you might spot «Damas Blancas,» a peculiar and native species to Yucatán cenotes.

For advanced divers who have explored many caverns, Yaakun presents an excellent option. You can enjoy one dive at Yaakun and combine a second dive with Cenote Chacmool, Cenote ChikinHa, or Cenote TajMaHa.
